Giving Flowers

The list for Altar flowers is on the kiosk in the Gathering area.  There are many open dates.   Because we do not want to leave the Church open most all of Saturday we ask that you follow new guidelines:

If you are purchasing flowers commercially, please have them delivered Friday morning between 9 and 12 when the office is staffed.  The arrangement should certainly still be fine by Sunday.

If you are delivering yourself, either a purchased arrangement/plant or one you have made, again, please deliver Friday morning  OR Sunday morning before the 8:30 service.  If this is not possible, contact Dolores during office hours for another delivery option.

Thanks to the many who have provided flowers for our Altar on Sundays.

“Flowers leave some of their fragrance in the hand that bestows them.”

From the Church Office:

Please notify the church office of any change of address, phone number or email!  This will help with communication.

If you have information about a church meeting or dates for events within the church please let Dolores or Pastor Anne know to put on the calendar.  If there are any changes please notify the office as soon as possible.

Don’t forget to check the church website:  Yalesvilleumc.org

FALL RUMMAGE SALE IS October 22 and 23 from 4  to 7 on Friday and 9 – 2 on Saturday. Mark your calendar.

We are in need of salable items…  the usual good stuff we Yalesville Methodists are known for. That includes: clothing in good condition, linens, dishes and appliances, antiques and collectibles, books  but NOT encyclopedia sets  and NOT textbooks, video, CDs and audiobooks, toys, tools, furniture,  house wares, baked goods, what-evers.

If you cannot transport items yourself, we can provide pick up.

IMPORTANTLY, WE WILL NEED HELP!   Workers are needed to unpack, sort and price donations starting  Thursday October 7 and weekdays right up to Sale days.  Working time would be from 9 – 12. This includes a break for good conversation and snacks.   If you can come only a few days that would still be helpful.  See Nancy Eddy,  Muriel Creed or Mary Anne Heidgerd if you will be available or have any questions.  People are also needed to work on the Sale Days and for Clean Up Saturday afternoon.  Please volunteer and take some of the pressure off the  over 60 group.

Vickie Gerace is in charge of the kitchen and will be looking for people to contribute food items.

Needed Food Pantry items are:

September  -  Peanut Butter & Jelly

October  -   Toiletries & Toilet Paper

The Prayer Shawl Ministry of Yalesville United Methodist Church has been gathering to knit and crochet prayer shawls, lap blankets and baby blankets since the spring of 2009.  A small group gathers at the Church once a month, but a number of talented congregation members knit and crochet at home.   During that time, 13 people have been presented with a prayer shawl or blanket.  The group hopes that recipients have comfort in knowing that they have been in the prayers of the congregation.   At the August 2010 gathering of the group, there were 23 prayer shawls and blankets.

The next gathering of the Prayer Shawl Ministry will be on Friday September 17th in the Gathering area from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.   All are welcome.

If you have a Keurig Coffee Brewer, or friends or family do, we have a deal for you.  Boxes of coffee, tea or hot chocolate  K CUPS for  just $11.

Every $2 of every $11 goes toward our Current Expenses.  Now that doesn’t sound like so much, but many of you have purchased K Cup supplies here and it has already added up!

Ordering forms are in the Gathering Area.  Fill out a form, leave it  in the box and your product will be delivered the following Sunday.  You may leave a check with your order form.

Questions??  see Bob Rooney, Finance Chairman.

Nursery News

We are very happy to be back in our own nursery room!! We look forward to spending quality time with our youngest church members on Sunday morning.

Needs: If anyone has a CD player that they are willing to donate to the nursery, we would greatly appreciate it.  We would like to be able to play children’s bible songs on Sunday morning.

We are looking for one interested young person (age 13 or older) to assist adults in the nursery on Sunday morning.  Any interested youth – with a heart for playing with young children – should see Robert or Rachel for more information.

Please take notice of the sign-up board left outside the nursery during fellowship hour.  We encourage and appreciate adult volunteers, and hope to have many more people involved with the nursery room this year.

Blessings,

Rachel Boccio

Robert Deleon

My Turn in the Nursery

Last Sunday was my turn in the nursery to work.  My heart wasn’t in it, and my feelings were hurt.  A child from it’s mother did not want to part. And cried a lot with it’s broken heart. I prayed that soon the hour would end. That I could relax—felt good to be free.  I said once a month was too much for me! That very next Sunday as I sat in the pew. A very good sermon, but visitors were few.   But down came a woman and her soul was saved, and she was the mother of the crying babe. Then it dawned on me that I had been a part of one being saved—giving God her heart. From that day on, I would never dread, working in the nursery while souls were being fed.

SUNDAY  SCHOOL  NEWS

We are very excited about the new year of Sunday School with just a few changes in program to help keep it exciting and organized.  The age groupings in the fall will be preschool (4) and kindergarten, 1-3, 4-6 and 7 up.

We will be studying creation using all our senses, focusing on the Creation story in Genesis and God’s good creation.  In October the Sunday School will present a special worship service so that the whole congregation might share in the experience.

Of course volunteers are needed for substituting-for both Sunday School and Nursery. We encourage all children and youth to attend each week!

WE ARE IN NEED OF A PROJECTOR THAT WOULD ALLOW US TO SHOW DVD’S FROM A COMPUTER…..A DONATION OR LOAN? Maybe your company has upgraded and would like to donate?

TRUSTEES

The Trustees met with the Finance Committee in July to consider the Finance request to postpone mortgage payment for three months in order for them to meet current budget obligations. Considering the financial straits of our Church, the Trustees agreed to this request.

However, as we look to the fall and winter months, please be aware that it is this interest from the mortgage payments that support the Trustees expenses, most of which are contractual. This includes the oil maintenance of both the church and parsonage, insurance, copier, contracts with ENT (AC and heat in addition), America Alarms, Fire Safety, snow and ice removal, and routine maintenance of the Church building and Parsonage. The Trustees will need to consider very closely upcoming expenses with the loss of approximately $5400 in anticipated income from mortgage repayment. And we hope for no unanticipated expenses.

And you, too, need to look very closely in how you bolster the Church programs… in your giving, your support of the CARD and K-Cup program as well as the other fundraising activities.

In late October or early November we will have another VOLUNTEER DAY to do leaf and garden clean-up.
